Gorgeous Fall Leaves

We took a little trip last weekend to the North Carolina mountains. We were going up for a 60th birthday party for 4 of Larry's cousins and it coincided with the peak of leaf season.
Everyone from that area kept telling us that the leaves were not that spectacular this year but we were in awe! Down on the coast we don't have nearly the amount of color and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This first view is in Glendale Springs at the location of the party. It was getting late and it had been cloudy but as the sun was going down the clouds were breaking up and it was stunning.

Larry's sister Shiela, her husband and daughter were with us. Megan is a professional photographer and I am sure her pictures will be spectacular. We had stopped to take pictures near a stream and were trying to get closer to it when I busted my backside on the side of the mountain. First thing I heard was don't help her up till I get pictures........I had people on both sides of me snapping away. Those pictures are private viewing only as I reminded Megan that she couldn't post any unless I looked skinny and young LOL! Larry came back up the hill and saw me on my backside in the mud and the only worry I saw in his eyes was "she is not getting in my vehicle covered in mud!" Thanks goodness there was something to sit on or I might still be there waiting for some clean clothes.

Welcome Home Ariana!

Ariana came home last night and we are having a family gathering this evening at her Nana's house to welcome her back to the east coast. I am predicting that this is the start of many wonderful things for her. Bookmark this page so you can look back and see that I am predicting that one day you will see that name in Broadway lights! A beautiful dancer that has such stage presence, it is hard to see anyone else on the stage when she is one of the dancers. I am not going to dignify the judge's words to her by commenting on them specifically here.
Ariana, we are so proud of you and love you very much!
Welcome Home!

Meet the top 20 show of SYTYCD was on last night. I know I am biased but I thought Ariana was great! The contemporary number that she was in was amazing! When she took that first flying leap through the air into the arms of her partner, I could feel the tears coming. She has worked so hard all her young life to get to this place and we are so happy for her. She has a fan site on facebook and if you would like to show support or leave her a message this is the site
Last night was fun because it was a showcase and no fear of elimination. Tonight the first 2 dancers will be eliminated so my nerves will be shot by the end of it. Whatever happens, it has been a wonderful opportunity for her and we couldn't be more proud.
We love you Ariana!

Memory Box and Movers and Shapers

Just got a brand new toy........Sizzix movers and shapers to be used with the Big Shot machine. I think it is going to be a favorite. So far I only have the one shape that came with it but can't wait to check out the other shapes. The large part of the die cuts out the card shape and you can place the magnetic shape anywhere in the open part of the die so that the cut out is anywhere you want it on the front of the card, and the card can be horizontal or vertical. Love that versatility. I had a coordinating punch from SU that I used to punch the turquoise shape in the center of the cut out.
All the stamps are by Memory Box and they were stamped on blue cardstock, touches of color added with copic markers and then covered with glossy accents. It takes the glossy accents about an hour to dry, but other than drying time this was a quick and easy card!

World card making day 4

Challenge 4 is to make a card based on Australia and use masking or white dots. I did both. I used PTI start prints to make this card. First I stamped the star several times on plain card stock and placed them over off white textured cardstock. Then I sprayed the card stock using 3 colors of Memories Mists. After removing the masks I stamped the star image over the masked areas. To add some color to the misted area I used copic markers. Added the white dots with a uni-bal gel pen. Stamped the dragonfly (stampendous) and the sentiment (PTI) and placed on card base.
This has been a great challenge. What a unique idea to base it on the colors and cultures of different countries.

The challenge on the Hero blog this week is to make ATCs. I haven't had much experience making them so I decided to give it a try and see if it would get those creative juices flowing again. They have been on vacation since I had surgery and I was ready for them to get back. I wanted to use some of the new Hero cling stamps and Beate Johns had a tutorial on her blog about using acrylic paints between acetate and card stock so the first ATC is a combo of those things.

First I stamped on the acetate using staz on and allowed the image to dry. Using the ranger paint dabbers I covered the back of the acetate with a combination of pink and peach acrylic paints adding to the paint until I was happy with the amount of color and then placed that over white glossy card stock. Once dry I used my spellbinders nestability to cut out the shape. Added flowers, pearls and glossy accents for dimension.

On this ATC I dabbed the acrylic paints directly on to the glossy card stock. After thoroughly dried I stamped the image over the paints using a dye ink and allowed that to dry. The colors of the flowers was not as bright as I thought they should be so I added color with copic markers.
punched out the butterflies and the fence. The flower was a large white flower that I folded into quarters and added color again with the copics and added pearls for the base of the flower.

I think the last one is my favorite. I like the black and white with only one added color. This time I inked up the stamp and stamped once on scrap paper then restamped on glossy card stock. So there was not as much coverage and it ended up having a marbled look in person. Colored one flower and added a silver brad for the center. Covered the entire card with frost versamark and embossed with clear powder. Cut the turquoise base from cooredinations card stock and sanded the edges to give it a distressed look. Added a touch of ribbon and 2 brads.

I would be interested in hearing which of these looks you like the most.

Hope you are having a great day and getting some creative time in!
